The brief
- Energy Dome builds CO2 battery systems for 8–24 hour energy storage with no reliance on lithium or rare minerals.
- Google partnerships: 19 MW/200 MWh in Arizona (2029) and 23 MW/200 MWh in Ireland (2028).
- October 2026: opened Piacenza manufacturing facility with €6.5M planned investment.
Technical approach
CO2 instead of lithium
Grid power drives compressors that squeeze CO2 into high-pressure tanks. Avoids lithium and rare minerals.
Stable, long-duration tanks
Compressed CO2 stays stable in thermal tanks for days or weeks. Unlike compressed air, it needs no geological caverns.
Expansion through turbines
High-pressure CO2 expands through turbines to drive a generator. The cycle is reversible and operates at high efficiency.
