Who is responsible
[legal entity name: to be supplied], [registered address: to be supplied], is the controller of the personal data described here. Contact for anything about your data: info@technooptimist.io.
What we collect and why
- Reading without an account: nothing that identifies you. Your browser keeps a few small values in its own storage: how many free pages you have read, the programs and companies you follow, when you last visited (for the “new” dots) and display choices such as the ticker. They never leave your browser.
- Your account: your email address and name, through our sign-in provider, to give you access to what you pay for.
- Your subscription: the plan, its status and dates, and the Stripe customer reference. Card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store them.
- API keys: only a one-way hash and the first characters of each key, so a stolen database can’t reveal a key.
- Usage analytics: pages viewed and a few events (the paywall shown, checkout started), to learn what readers use and fix what they don’t. Signed-in readers are linked to their account so a subscription can be counted once. If your browser sends Do Not Track, no analytics are collected at all.
- Server logs: IP address, browser and the address requested, to keep the service secure, enforce API limits and fix errors.
Legal basis: providing the service you asked for (account, subscription, API), and our legitimate interest in keeping it secure and improving it (logs, analytics). We don’t sell personal data and don’t use it for advertising.
Who processes it for us
- Clerk (opens clerk.com): sign-in and account management.
- Stripe (opens stripe.com): payments, invoices and the billing portal.
- PostHog (opens posthog.com): usage analytics, hosted in the EU.
- Railway (opens railway.com): hosting of the site, the API and the database.
Some of them are in the United States; transfers rely on their standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.
Cookies and browser storage
The sign-in provider sets the cookies needed to keep you signed in. Analytics use browser storage to tell one visit from the next (off with Do Not Track). The free-page count, follows and display choices described above live in your browser’s storage; clearing it resets them.
How long we keep it
Account and subscription records: while you have an account, then as long as tax and accounting law requires for payment records. Analytics and server logs: only as long as they help run and improve the service. Delete your account and we delete the rest.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, or object to its use, by writing to info@technooptimist.io. You can manage or cancel your subscription yourself in your account. If you are in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
