Tesla reveals Optimus Gen 2 with lighter body and improved hands

Tesla/Optimus

Tesla showed Optimus Gen 2, 10 kg lighter and 30% faster at walking than the previous version, with Tesla-designed actuators and sensors, a movable neck and human-shaped feet. New hands with 11 degrees of freedom let it pick up and set down an egg without breaking it, though useful independent work remained far off.

• Gen 2: 10 kg lighter, 30% faster walking, actuated neck (2 DOF), human-shaped feet, Tesla custom actuators and sensors
• Hands upgraded to 11 degrees of freedom with faster movement; demonstrated picking up and placing egg without breaking
• Improved balance and full-body control; AI development for real-world deployment remains multi-year timeline
