Zoox begins charging fares for robotaxi rides in Las Vegas

ZooxZoox robotaxi

Zoox started charging for robotaxi rides in Las Vegas on 10 August 2026, its first paid market and the first paid service in the US in a vehicle with no steering wheel or pedals. It had given free rides since 2025 in Las Vegas, San Francisco, Austin and Miami, carrying nearly 1 million passengers.

  • Fares combine a base price, distance and time, plus a destination fee for airport trips, and are set near the 'comfort' tier of Uber and Lyft, above their economy rides.
  • Paid service elsewhere needs state and local approvals; CEO Aicha Evans: 'It's different when it's free vs. when the customer is going to pay.'
  • It rests on NHTSA's July 2026 exemption, which caps Zoox at 2,500 vehicles a year for two years.
