The US Patent and Trademark Office issued a re-examination certificate on 23 July 2026 confirming, with no changes, the claims of Sila's core silicon-carbon anode patent, US 10,374,221, after a challenge. Sila says it is the sixth re-examination challenge to its core IP it has defeated in the US and abroad. The patent covers the silicon-carbon anode material behind Titan Silicon, so the ruling strengthens Sila's position as the industry moves beyond graphite anodes.
- In an ex parte re-examination, anyone can ask the Patent Office to look again at a granted patent; the challenger here was not named.
- Claims confirmed unchanged is the strongest outcome: nothing had to be narrowed.
- Sila holds nearly 300 patents and pending applications worldwide on silicon-carbon anodes.
- Sila says the result helps stop others from copying the technology as more battery makers adopt silicon-carbon anodes.
