The brief
- Moses Lake started in autumn 2025 at about 2 GWh of batteries a year, and is designed to grow much larger.
- Raised $300M in July 2026 led by Atreides Management and Sutter Hill Ventures to expand Moses Lake.
- Partners include Mercedes-Benz and Panasonic; demand is also growing from AI devices and defense.
Technical approach
Particle
Silicon with room to swell
Silicon sits inside a porous particle with empty space, so it can expand when charging without the particle cracking.
Drop-in
Graphite replacement
It drops into existing cell factories, raising anode capacity from about 370 mAh/g (graphite) to well above 1,000 mAh/g.

Open technical problems
- Swelling and cycle lifePartially solved
Silicon's big size change over thousands of charges, especially in EV cells, is the main durability challenge.
- Cost at giant scaleActive research
Scaling a nanomaterial process to hundreds of GWh while cutting cost is unproven.
