Sila Nanotechnologies received a conditional commitment for a loan of up to $1.4 billion from the US Department of War's Office of Strategic Capital. The money would expand silicon-carbon anode production at its Moses Lake, Washington plant and fund a new battery cell factory for specialty uses such as drones and aerospace. Sila also raised $300 million in equity led by Sutter Hill Ventures and Atreides Management.
- Conditional: Sila must meet financial, legal, technical and other conditions before definitive loan documents are signed. No construction timeline or capacity target was given.
- Planned cell uses: industrial, farm and military drones, aerospace, eVTOLs, robotics, autonomous vehicles and AI data centres.
- Rationale given: China controls over 90% of anode material processing and about 80% of global cell production.
- Sila says Moses Lake makes it the only North American advanced-battery-materials company operating at gigawatt-hour scale.
