Neuralink starts CONVOY, a study of controlling assistive devices such as a robotic arm with the implant
NeuralinkN1 implant (Telepathy)
Neuralink launched CONVOY, a feasibility study enabling PRIME trial participants with the N1 implant to control assistive robotic arms and other devices through brain signals alone. Registered on ClinicalTrials.gov, the study tests whether neural control is effective, consistent and safe for restoring functional independence. Approximately three participants were planned initially.
- Cross-enrollment opportunity for PRIME participants; tests N1 implant's ability to control investigational assistive robotic arm (ARA) and other assistive devices.
- Measures effectiveness, consistency and safety of neural control; assesses whether users can reliably modulate brain activity to command external devices.
- Expands implant applications beyond communication and computer control toward direct manipulation of physical assistive devices for paralyzed individuals.
