Life Biosciences Presents Phase 1 Data on Epigenetic Reprogramming Therapy for Eye Disease
Life Biosciences announced that it will present interim Phase 1 data from its trial of ER-100 at the Eyecelerator session during the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in New Orleans on October 8, 2026. ER-100 is the first human therapy based on epigenetic reprogramming, a technique that resets gene expression toward a more youthful state by transiently expressing the factors OCT4, SOX2, and KLF4. The Phase 1 trial began in Q1 2026 and targets optic neuropathies including open-angle glaucoma and non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, with safety and visual function as primary endpoints.
- ER-100 uses epigenetic reprogramming to rejuvenate retinal ganglion cells that degrade or die in glaucoma and other optic neuropathies.
- The Phase 1 trial marks the first human test of a partial epigenetic reprogramming therapy, a major milestone in the longevity and rejuvenation field.
- The therapy is delivered as an eye injection targeting affected retinal tissue, concentrating treatment in the area of need.
- Epigenetic reprogramming works by transiently expressing OCT4, SOX2, and KLF4 factors to reset cells toward a more youthful gene-expression state.
- Life Biosciences initiated the trial in Q1 2026, with results expected late this year or early next year pending data maturity.
