Boom says it will develop its own Symphony engine for Overture with three partners
Boom announced Symphony, a 35,000 lb-thrust medium-bypass turbofan designed specifically for its Overture supersonic airliner, developed with Florida Turbine Technologies, GE Additive and StandardAero. The engine features no afterburner, passive high-pressure turbine cooling and additive manufacturing for reduced weight, optimized for 100% sustainable aviation fuel with type certification targeted for 2029.
- 35,000 lbs thrust, single-stage fan, twin-spool architecture without afterburner
- Florida Turbine Technologies leads design with former F-119 and F-135 engineers; GE Additive consults on additive manufacturing; StandardAero handles assembly and MRO
- Boom-designed supersonic intake and variable-geometry low-noise exhaust nozzle included
- Type certification in 2029; first flight 2027; expected 25% increase in time on wing and 10% lower operating costs versus derivative engines
