The brief
- XB-1 went supersonic on 28 January 2025 over the Mojave Desert.
- Overture has about 130 orders and pre-orders, including United, American and Japan Airlines.
- In Dec 2025 launched Superpower, a 42 MW turbine for data centers, with an order for 29 from Crusoe and $300M of new funding.
Technical approach
Wing shaped for Mach 1.7
A slim delta wing keeps drag low at speed and still takes off and lands well. Mach 1.7, not Concorde's 2.0, means less heat and easier engines.
Its own engine
After big engine makers said no, Boom is building Symphony itself: no afterburner, built to meet noise rules and burn sustainable jet fuel.
Flying fast with no boom
At the right speed and height, the air bends the sonic boom upward so it never reaches the ground, allowing faster flights over land.

Showed how bending the boom upward lets planes fly supersonic over land with no boom heard below.
- 28 Jan 2025
First supersonic passenger-type jet built by an independent company, proving its carbon-fibre body and digital design.
Open technical problems
- A new engine is costlyOpen
A new jet engine usually takes billions and a decade; Boom's timeline depends on Symphony, now partly paid for by turbine sales.
- Fuel, fares and emissionsOpen
Flying supersonic burns more fuel per passenger, so ticket prices and green rules decide demand.
