Boom's XB-1 demonstrator makes its first flight at Mojave
Boom's XB-1, an independently developed supersonic demonstrator, made its first flight on 22 March 2024 at Mojave Air & Space Port. The one-seat jet reached altitudes of 7,120 feet and speeds up to 238 knots, testing carbon-fiber composites, digitally optimized aerodynamics and supersonic propulsion systems planned for Overture.
- Chief Test Pilot Bill 'Doc' Shoemaker flew the aircraft, meeting all initial test objectives
- XB-1 leverages carbon-fiber composites, advanced avionics, digitally-optimized aerodynamics, and advanced propulsion
- Successfully achieved altitude of 7,120 feet and speeds up to 238 knots (273 mph) on first flight
- XB-1 provides foundation for Overture commercial airliner targeting Mach 1.7 speeds
