The brief
- OTOY launched RNDR in 2017; network public since 2020. By Dec 2025: 63 million frames rendered, over 1 million RENDER burned.
- Dispersed, the brand for its AI compute subnet, went live in December 2025 for running AI models on rented GPUs.
- Salad (about 60,000 daily active machines) became a subnet after an April 2026 vote; two of three steps live by July.
Technical approach
Spare GPUs, rented by the job
Node operators offer idle graphics cards; creators send render or AI jobs, which are split across many machines and run in parallel.
Burn and mint
Jobs are priced in dollars. Buyers burn RENDER worth that amount; operators earn newly minted tokens on a fixed, declining schedule.
Inside artists' tools
Jobs come straight from OctaneRender, Redshift, Blender Cycles and Cinema 4D, so artists use the network without leaving their workflow.
Separate networks per workload
AI and general compute run on a separate subnet with its own rewards and hardware rules, apart from the rendering network; Salad runs as a further subnet.
