The brief
- Mingyang ranks first in China's offshore wind market share and is among the top three globally for installed wind capacity.
- Announced 50 MW twin-rotor floating turbine with two 25 MW rotors on V-tower; mass production in Guangdong starts 2026.
- Manufacturing costs are projected at less than $1,300 per kilowatt, significantly below European benchmarks.
Technical approach
Two rotors, one tower
Two 25 MW rotors on one V-tower reach 50 MW while staying stable in typhoons, inspired by Mingyang's Ocean-X platform.
290-metre rotor diameter
Each rotor spans 290 metres (nearly three football fields), allowing high power generation in moderate wind speeds and operation in winds exceeding 260 km/h.
Floating for deep sites
The floating design allows deployment in deep water far from shore, accessing stronger winds and avoiding conflicts with shipping lanes and coastal development.
