The brief
- Commercial since 2024: 36 of 72 at Denmark's Thor, 107 for Poland Baltica 2, all 66 in Taiwan (Q3 2026 operation).
- Delivers 30% higher annual output than its 11 MW predecessor using direct-drive generators, reducing maintenance.
- Prototype validated grid operation in March 2023 at Denmark's Østerild test center before commercial production.
Technical approach
Large rotor for energy capture
236m rotor and 115m blades capture wind efficiently at scale. The 43,500 m² swept area allows fewer, larger turbines per farm.
Permanent magnet direct drive
PMG generators couple directly to the rotor with no gearbox, reducing losses and maintenance. Requires precise power electronics for grid syncing.
Manufacturing at scale in Denmark
B115 blades manufactured at Aalborg, Denmark facility. Blade fabrication is one of the highest-cost, most labor-intensive turbine parts.
Advanced pitch and yaw systems
Individual blade pitch and yaw optimize power extraction in variable wind and manage loads during gusts and storms.
