The brief
- KHNP operates 24 nuclear plants, generating 32% of South Korea's electricity.
- Dukovany is Korea's first European reactor export, awarded in competition against France and US.
- Two APR1000 reactors, €18.6B, construction 2029, operation 2036–2038.
Technical approach
APR1000: proven and licensed
A 1,055 MW pressurized-water reactor built and licensed in South Korea. European stress test certification in 2023 cleared the design for European licensing.
Korean equipment, Czech integration
KHNP partners with Doosan Enerbility for equipment and Daewoo E&C for construction. Czech companies handle on-site integration and project management.
Dukovany: proven site, new units
The four-unit site has operated since 1987. New units share cooling, security and training with the existing fleet, reducing capital costs.
