Viking starts oral VK2735 Phase 3 program, the SUNRISE trials
Viking announced the start of a Phase 3 program for oral VK2735, its daily pill version of the GLP-1/GIP dual agonist, under the name SUNRISE. Two randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials will test once-daily oral doses for 68 weeks, one in adults with obesity or overweight and one in adults with type 2 diabetes. The release gives no first-enrollment date.
- SUNRISE-1 covers adults with obesity or overweight without type 2 diabetes who have at least one weight-related condition; SUNRISE-2 covers adults with type 2 diabetes who are obese or overweight.
- Each trial targets 560 adults.
- Participants are randomized to 27.5 mg, 35 mg or 55 mg of oral VK2735 once daily, or placebo.
- The primary endpoint is percent change in body weight from baseline versus placebo after 68 weeks.
- The release does not say how the three doses were chosen, and it gives no timing for enrollment or data.
