Viking starts Part 2 of VK2735 oral maintenance-dosing study in about 195 adults with obesity
Viking Therapeutics announced on October 6, 2026 the start of Part 2 of an exploratory study testing maintenance regimens for its GLP-1/GIP drug VK2735. Part 2 compares daily and weekly oral doses, monthly and every-other-week injections, and placebo after 21 weeks of weekly injections. The company expects to report Part 2 results in 2027. This is a separate study from the oral VANQUISH Phase 3 trial, which the announcement does not mention.
- About 195 adults with obesity (BMI 30 or higher), randomized, double-blind and placebo-controlled.
- All participants first receive weekly subcutaneous VK2735 or placebo for 21 weeks, then move to a maintenance option.
- Part 1 of the same study, which tested subcutaneous maintenance regimens, has already reported positive top-line results.
- Results from Part 2 are expected in 2027.
- The announcement does not confirm a start date for the oral VANQUISH Phase 3 trial, which the company guided to Q4 2026.
