TRISO-X completes vertical construction of its TX-1 fuel plant in Oak Ridge, sized to fuel up to 11 Xe-100s
X-energyXe-100 at Long Mott (Dow Seadrift)
TRISO-X, X-energy's fuel subsidiary, finished the building structure of TX-1, its 214,000 sq ft fuel fabrication plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. When running it is designed to make about 700,000 fuel pebbles a year, containing about 5 tonnes of uranium, enough for up to 11 Xe-100 reactors. Fuel making has not started; equipment still has to be installed.
- Next steps are interior build-out, installing fabrication equipment and support buildings such as a graphite matrix powder building.
- The NRC granted a 40-year licence in February 2026, its first Category 2 licence for a plant handling HALEU.
- X-energy says it is the first new commercial-scale advanced US nuclear fuel plant in more than 50 years.
- No date for first fuel production was given.
