TerraPower and Southern Company finalized an agreement to design, build and operate the Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment at Idaho National Laboratory, a non-power demonstration reactor backed by a five-year, $170M DOE cost-shared award. The small fast-spectrum salt reactor aims to inform the design of a larger Molten Chloride Fast Reactor.
