Redwood agreed to recycle batteries from Caterpillar's R1700 XE electric underground mining loaders, each carrying a 213 kWh pack, and to explore second-life storage for them first. Caterpillar Venture Capital invested in Redwood; the goal is recovering lithium, nickel, cobalt and copper for new batteries.
- Redwood will recycle Caterpillar R1700 XE loader batteries (213 kWh each); Caterpillar Venture Capital also invested in Redwood's Series D.
- Partnership explores second-life storage applications before end-of-life recycling, maximizing value from each battery.
- Recovers lithium, nickel, cobalt and copper from used packs for reuse in new battery manufacturing.
