GM becomes the first carmaker to partner with Redwood across the full battery lifecycle

Redwood MaterialsRecycling and materials campus

GM became the first carmaker to partner with Redwood across the entire battery lifecycle: factory scrap recycling, battery reuse and material recovery. Redwood will install about 100 used GM packs as 1.5 MW, 7.2 MWh of energy storage at a GM plant in Michigan, projected to save over $3M. Redwood has processed over 28,000 metric tons from GM and holds about 10,000 more packs queued for reuse.

  • GM first automaker to engage Redwood across full lifecycle: manufacturing scrap, end-of-life packs, and energy storage.
  • Michigan plant installation: ~100 repurposed GM packs, 1.5 MW/7.2 MWh storage, projected $3M+ lifetime savings.
  • Redwood processed 28,000+ metric tons from GM; ~10,000 more packs queued for reuse before material recovery.
