Qubic mining pool reorganises six Monero blocks after claiming majority hashrate

Monero (open-source project)Monero network & FCMP++ upgrade

Qubic, a separate blockchain whose miners mine Monero and use the rewards to buy back and burn its own token, pointed enough hashrate at Monero to carry out a six-block-deep reorganisation and orphan about 60 blocks. Whether it truly held a sustained majority is disputed, but the episode showed a mid-sized proof-of-work chain can be pressured by one pool.

  • Six-block reorganisation; about 60 blocks orphaned.
  • Kraken paused XMR deposits after one pool passed half the network's hashing power.
  • Some Monero developers put Qubic's real share nearer 35% and called it a stress test, not a takeover.
  • A DDoS attack on Qubic's systems later cut its hashrate.
