GM and LG accelerate LMR battery development targeting 2028 commercial production
GM and LG Energy Solution announced that Ultium Cells will begin commercial production of lithium-manganese-rich (LMR) battery cells by 2028, with pre-production beginning at an LG facility by late 2027. LMR cells deliver 33% higher energy density than LFP at comparable cost, targeting large EVs like the Chevrolet Silverado and Cadillac Escalade IQ.
