General Matter leased 100 acres at the former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant from the Department of Energy, with at least 7,600 cylinders of uranium hexafluoride to re-enrich. The $1.5 billion project would create about 140 jobs; construction was expected in 2026 and enrichment in 2034. Paducah enriched uranium from 1952 until 2013.
