Energy Northwest picks Cascade Nuclear Partners (Kiewit, Black & Veatch, Aecon) to design and build the first four Xe-100s

X-energyCascade Advanced Energy Facility (Energy Northwest)

Energy Northwest entered negotiations with Cascade Nuclear Partners, an equal joint venture of Kiewit Nuclear Solutions, Black & Veatch and Aecon, to plan, design and build the first four of twelve Xe-100 reactors under a progressive design-build contract. That model fixes scope, schedule and cost during a development phase before full construction.

  • First phase: four 80 MW Xe-100 units, 320 MW, next to Columbia Generating Station.
  • Construction expected to start by the end of the decade; operation in the 2030s.
  • Amazon funds the initial feasibility phase; AtkinsRéalis is technical advisor.
