Cybercab enters formal production at Giga Texas, at a slow initial rate

TeslaCybercab

Tesla confirmed on its Q1 2026 earnings call that continuous Cybercab production had started at Giga Texas, with Musk warning the ramp would be very slow before accelerating late in the year. Tesla said the car self-certifies to federal safety standards, avoiding NHTSA's 2,500-vehicle exemption cap.

  • Production start: April 2026 at Giga Texas (first steering-wheel-less unit in February)
  • Ramp rate: very slow initially, exponential acceleration planned toward year-end
  • Regulatory status: self-certifies to all federal standards (like Camry, F-150); no NHTSA exemption needed
  • Production cap: not constrained by NHTSA's 2,500-unit annual exemption limit
