CATL launches Naxtra sodium-ion battery at 175 Wh/kg
CATL unveiled Naxtra, its first mass-producible sodium-ion battery, achieving 175 Wh/kg energy density with over 10,000 cycle life and operating range from -40°C to +70°C. Sodium chemistry eliminates combustion-supporting factors at the material level, eliminating thermal runaway risk; the company also showed the Freevoy dual-chemistry battery and second-generation Shenxing fast-charging cell at its inaugural Super Tech Day.
- Naxtra: 175 Wh/kg, highest energy density among sodium-ion batteries globally.
- Over 10,000 cycle life; retains 90% usable power at -40°C.
- Intrinsic safety: eliminates combustion-supporting factors at material level.
- Ready for mass production; heavy-duty truck variant with 24V start-stop also shown.
