CATL and Changan unveil what they call the first mass-produced passenger car with sodium-ion batteries

CATL and Changan jointly unveiled what they call the world's first mass-production passenger vehicle with sodium-ion batteries, featuring CATL's Naxtra cells with energy density up to 175 Wh/kg and over 400 km of range. Cars were due on sale from mid-2026 across multiple Changan brands.

• Naxtra cells deliver up to 175 Wh/kg energy density with over 400 km range.
• Sodium cells maintain over 90% capacity at -40°C, far better cold-weather performance than lithium.
• CATL invested approximately 10 billion RMB over a decade with 300+ R&D personnel to reach this milestone.
• CATL will serve as exclusive sodium-ion battery supplier across Changan brands including AVATR, Deepal, Qiyuan and UNI.
