BYD opens blind pre-orders for the second-generation Seagull, a larger model

BYD has opened blind pre-orders for its second-generation Seagull, which it calls the "Great Seagull" and which succeeds the current model, sold as the Dolphin Surf overseas. Prices have not been revealed; the current Seagull starts at 69,900 yuan (about $10,000) in China. The new model is due on sale in China by the end of 2026, and overseas availability is not confirmed.

  • Dimensions from a regulatory filing: 4,205 mm long, 1,810 mm wide and a 2,650 mm wheelbase, 425 mm longer than the current 3,780 mm car.
  • The motor rises from 55 kW (75 hp) to 95 kW (127 hp) and moves from the front to the rear.
  • Range and battery specs are unconfirmed; premium trims are expected to get Blade Batteries 2.0 and Flash Charging.
  • A roof-mounted LiDAR is added, and the car is expected to use the God's Eye B driver-assistance system.
  • China comes first; a larger overseas variant of the Dolphin Surf and Dolphin Mini is expected, but no overseas plans are confirmed.
