Ayar Labs expands its 2026 funding to $650M to scale manufacturing of co-packaged optics
Ayar Labs raised another $150 million, bringing its 2026 funding to $650 million, including a strategic investment from cloud infrastructure maker Wiwynn. Ayar builds co-packaged optics: optical chiplets (TeraPHY) that sit next to a processor and move data as light instead of over copper wires. The money goes to product validation, scaling up high-volume manufacturing and a new design centre in Bengaluru.
- Existing strategic backers include Alchip, AMD, Intel, MediaTek and NVIDIA.
- CEO Mark Wade: 'Copper interconnect is becoming the limiting factor for AI scale-up.'
- Its products are the TeraPHY optical engine and the SuperNova light source that feeds it, aimed at AI infrastructure.
- The Bengaluru centre adds silicon engineering to Ayar's US and Taiwan sites. Ayar was founded in 2015.
