Aurora launches second-generation driverless trucks on International LT with no one on board
Aurora InnovationAurora Driver for trucks
Aurora put trucks with its second-generation self-driving hardware, built on International LT Series tractors, into commercial service with no one aboard. The new hardware is more powerful and designed to last 1 million miles, which matters because sensors and computers that wear out quickly make each truck expensive to run.
- Aurora runs 10 driverless routes across the US Sun Belt and had logged nearly 440,000 driverless miles by the end of June 2026.
- Upfitter Roush aims for an annual production rate of 1,000 trucks by year-end.
- One customer plans to buy 500 Aurora-equipped trucks.
- Aurora says it closed its safety case for the new hardware before launch; it began driverless Class 8 trucking on public roads in 2025.
