Atom Computing demonstrates mid-circuit measurement and atom rearrangement in its ytterbium array
Atom ComputingAtom arrays and Magne
Atom Computing measured individual qubits partway through a computation without disturbing their neighbours, a first for a commercial neutral-atom system. The company also detected lost atoms and refilled them from a nearby reservoir. Mid-circuit measurement enables error correction during computation and was previously shown only on superconducting and trapped-ion machines.
- Developed technique to 'hide' data qubits from measurement lasers, preventing decoherence of neighbours.
- Detected lost qubits from the array and replaced them from a nearby reservoir—key for long computations.
- First commercial neutral-atom system to demonstrate mid-circuit measurement; critical for fault-tolerant quantum computing.
- Enables error detection, conditional logic (IF/THEN), and real-time understanding of quantum states during calculations.
