193 fuel assemblies heat water held under high pressure so it stays liquid; steam generators turn that heat into steam for the turbine.
If cooling fails, water drains from tanks above the reactor and air flows over the steel containment, with no pumps or power needed.
It keeps the AP1000's passive layout but raises power by about 40%, spreading the fixed cost of a plant over more electricity.

SPIC is a Chinese state-owned power group, formed in 2015 when State Nuclear Power Technology merged with China Power Investment. It runs nuclear, solar, wind, hydro and thermal plants and owns China's own large passive reactor design, Guohe One (CAP1400).
