The brief
- By March 2025 it had supplied about 19 billion cylindrical cells, enough for about 3.7 million EVs.
- Kansas plant opened July 2025 aiming at 32 GWh a year; with Nevada (about 41 GWh) US capacity would reach about 73 GWh.
- Shifting part of its growth to data-centre batteries as US EV demand and Tesla orders slowed.
Technical approach
Small cylindrical cells
Thousands of finger-sized 2170 cells (21 mm wide, 70 mm long) go into one car pack. Cans wound in high volume are cheap, robust and easy to cool.
High-nickel cathodes
Nickel-rich cathodes store more energy per litre; its 2170 cells reach about 800 Wh per litre.
Silicon to replace graphite
Buying silicon anode material from Sila; silicon holds far more lithium than graphite, aiming at 1,000 Wh/L by 2031.
North American materials
Cathode and copper foil from Redwood in Nevada, which also recycles its factory scrap, keep the supply chain local and qualify for US rules.
