The brief
- Produces 217 million tonnes cement annually; scaling low-carbon production.
- GO4ZERO: €500M air-oxyfuel kiln targets 30% CO₂ reduction; capture phase paused pending infrastructure.
- Net-zero delayed to late 2030/early 2031 as storage infrastructure develops.
Technical approach
Burn with oxygen instead of air
Pure oxygen replaces air in the kiln, producing exhaust of mostly CO₂ and water instead of nitrogen-diluted gas.
Cryocap OXY extracts CO₂ from exhaust
Cryogenic distillation cools and liquefies CO₂ from kiln exhaust, removing water and impurities for 99% efficiency.
Pipeline to permanent storage
Captured CO₂ ships from Antwerp@C hub to depleted North Sea gas fields for permanent storage.
