Westinghouse starts long-lead orders for Poland's AP1000 plant and a Dutch design contract

Westinghouse

Westinghouse has begun early work on two European new-build projects. In Poland, state utility PEJ asked it to buy long-lead items for the first of three AP1000 units, with conditional orders to four Polish suppliers. In the Netherlands, Hyundai E&C signed a front-end engineering design contract under Westinghouse's FEED 1 project. Neither step is a final investment decision or construction start.

  • Poland (Lubiatowo-Kopalino): three AP1000 units totaling 3,750 MWe; the first is scheduled to enter commercial operation in 2036.
  • Six key components are in scope, including the containment vessel and structural modules; suppliers must reach NQA-1 compliance and build preproduction mockups before getting the full scope.
  • Netherlands: state agency NEO NL aims to build two plants of at least 1,000 MW each; Hyundai E&C will assess sites and draft a master plan and execution strategy.
  • Neither article gives contract values, the Dutch site choice or a construction timeline.
