Westinghouse eVinci microreactor completes zero-power criticality test at NCERC
WestinghouseeVinci Microreactor
Westinghouse completed zero-power criticality testing of its eVinci test reactor at the National Criticality Experiments Research Center, a facility at Nevada's National Security Site, in partnership with Los Alamos and Idaho National Laboratories. The successful test validated the reactor's core design and models.
- Test reactor is one-fifth scale of the commercial 5 MWe design
- Zero-power test validated core design and control systems ahead of fueled testing
- Air Force selected Westinghouse in April 2026 as a potential developer for microreactors at military installations
- NASA selected Westinghouse in 2022 to design a 40 kWe lunar variant with 10+ year operation capability
