TSMC opens its first Japanese fab in Kumamoto, backed by up to ¥476B in subsidies

JASM held the opening ceremony for its first Kumamoto plant, built since April 2022 with a Japanese government subsidy of ¥476B (about $3.16B). It is planned for about 55,000 300 mm wafers a month at 28, 16 and 12 nm.

• Sony, Denso and Toyota are minority investors.
• Second plant planned for 7/6 nm, production by end-2027 (later changed).
