Tesla says Robotaxi has driven 1 million unsupervised miles
At the Cybercab event, Tesla's head of Autopilot and AI, Ashok Elluswamy, said Robotaxi had passed 1 million miles with no one supervising in the car. That is up from 380,000 reported on the 22 July earnings call, meaning about 620,000 miles in six weeks. Waymo, by comparison, passed 1 million in 2023 and has about 200 million autonomous miles.
- Tesla also reported about 2.5 million total paid Robotaxi miles as of Q2, most of them with a safety monitor or driver aboard.
- The service started in Austin in June 2025 with safety drivers, moved to remote oversight, and began fully unsupervised rides in early 2026.
- Austin registrations: about 45 Cybercabs and roughly 450 Model Y robotaxis, though only a small share operate at any time.
- Caveats from Electrek: the jump may include previously uncounted Cybercab testing, and government records show at least 17 incidents despite Tesla's 'zero notable incidents' claim.
