Tesla offers to rename FSD in Europe to 'Tesla Assisted Driving' as Germany backs EU approval
TeslaFull Self-Driving (Supervised)
Germany's transport ministry says it will push for EU-wide approval of Tesla's driver-assistance system, provided it is renamed and limited on speed. Tesla has offered the new name, and the ministry says the old name was misleading. The EU vote expected in October has slipped to December at the earliest.
- Germany's condition is that the system may exceed the posted speed limit by no more than 10%, which both sides agreed in September talks.
- The ministry called the current 'FSD' name misleading, because the system helps steer, brake and accelerate but does not take over the whole driving task.
- Germany has not yet recognised the Dutch approval granted in April; if EU approval fails, it would consider acting alone.
- Sweden and France have raised concerns about the system exceeding speed limits.
- Tesla has not confirmed the speed change at the time of the report.
