Tesla drops the Full Self-Driving name in Europe after German pushback
TeslaFull Self-Driving (Supervised)
Tesla's driver-assistance package, sold in Europe as "Full Self-Driving (Supervised)", is now called "Tesla Assisted Driving", and its German website no longer uses the FSD name. Germany's transport ministry says the old name was misleading, since the system does not take over the full driving task. The rename is a name change: the product pitch on the German page is largely unchanged, and the EU-wide approval vote has slipped to December at the earliest.
- The Federal Ministry of Transport said on October 6 that drivers must stay attentive and remain fully responsible, and that Tesla offered the new name in September talks with minister Steffen Bilger.
- Bilger wants Tesla drivers across the EU to use the system as soon as possible; Germany would back a 10% cap on speeding over the posted limit in the EU process.
- Reuters reported that the version approved in the Netherlands allows speeds up to 50% over the detected limit, so the cap and the approved software do not yet match.
- Tesla's approval page lists eight countries, including the Netherlands, Denmark and Belgium; Germany is not on the list. France and Sweden have raised speeding concerns.
- The US version is still sold as Full Self-Driving (Supervised), so the rename applies to Europe only.
