Kairos PowerHermes

Samsung C&T has agreed to invest up to $100 million in Kairos Power under a binding term sheet. The money, part cash and part engineering services, goes to the Hermes 2 demonstration reactor in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and brings Samsung C&T into Kairos's engineering, procurement and construction team. The deal depends on regulatory approvals.

  • Up to $100 million, combining direct investment with in-kind engineering services; the split between cash and services is not given
  • Hermes 2 is a grid-connected 50 MWe demonstration reactor; the NRC issued its construction permits in December 2024 and groundbreaking took place in April 2026; the article gives no operating date
  • The aim is to support wider commercial deployment of Kairos's fluoride salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor design
  • Samsung C&T's Lee Chang-wook called it "an important milestone for leading the next-generation nuclear power market"
