OpenAI announced $40B in new funding at $300B post-money valuation, the largest funding round on record, in partnership with SoftBank Group. The company said the money would go to research and compute infrastructure. ChatGPT at the time had 500 million weekly active users.

• Two tranches: $100B immediately (SoftBank $7.5B, syndicate $2.5B), $30B later (SoftBank $22.5B, syndicate $7.5B)
