Meta expands Hyperion, lifting total planned investment above $50B
Meta committed more than $50 billion to its Richland Parish, Louisiana data-centre campus, home of the Hyperion AI training cluster, expanding it to nearly 10 million square feet and 5 GW of IT capacity. The state announcement pairs the expansion with a large Entergy power build-out, mostly gas, to feed it. The project was first announced in December 2024.
- 5 GW of IT capacity is roughly the output of five large power plants
- Entergy plans seven new gas-fired plants and three grid-scale batteries, and is studying nuclear, including at Waterford 3
- Meta pledged $215 million to Entergy's Power to Care bill-assistance and efficiency programmes and up to 2.5 GW of renewable energy funding
- Jobs: 7,500 at peak construction, about 1,000 operational; $1.6 billion already contracted with local businesses
