Li-Cycle filed for creditor protection under Canadian bankruptcy laws and in the U.S. courts in May 2025 as it worked toward a sale to Glencore. The company had suspended Rochester hub construction in November 2023 after costs ballooned past $1 billion, and ongoing operational losses forced the bankruptcy.
