Juvenescence launches MDI Therapeutics, a new venture targeting fibrotic disease

JuvenescencePAI-1 inhibitor

Juvenescence invested up to $9 million in the Series A of MDI Therapeutics, a Michigan company developing serpin-based therapies for fibrosis, and agreed to help take its lead program through Phase 1. Serine protease inhibitors (serpins) are a class of proteins involved in coronary heart disease, thrombosis, and chronic fibrotic and inflammatory diseases.

  • MDI's lead program is an orally available PAI-1 inhibitor with efficacy in multiple preclinical fibrosis models.
  • Founded on discoveries by Daniel A. Lawrence, PhD, Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at University of Michigan.
  • Shown promising pharmacokinetic and safety profile in preclinical studies of fibrosis and thrombosis.
  • Serpin inhibitors target a fundamental biology underlying fibrotic and inflammatory disease progression.
