H2 Green Steel renames itself Stegra

Stegra

H2 Green Steel renamed itself Stegra, a Swedish word meaning 'to elevate', to reflect its three businesses: green hydrogen production, green iron using hydrogen instead of coal and coke, and green steel with full electrification. The company had secured €6.5 billion in total funding and targeted start of production at Boden in 2026.

  • Stegra operates three integrated platforms at Boden, Sweden: green hydrogen (one of the world's largest electrolyzers), green iron (hydrogen replaces coal and coke), and green steel (fully electrified production).
  • €6.5 billion in total funding secured (€4.2B debt, €2.1B equity, €250M EU grant); production at Boden targeted for 2026.
  • The integrated model produces near-zero-emissions steel by replacing fossil fuels with green hydrogen at every stage.
