LG ChemClarksville cathode plant (NCMA)

GM and LG Chem signed a binding cathode active material (CAM) supply agreement on July 26, 2022, covering 950 kt over eight years (2022–2030). The deal supports GM's Ultium Cells joint venture and North American EV production goals.

  • 950 kt supplies enough cathode for ~5 million EVs. CAM is ~40% of battery cell cost.
  • Supplies Ultium Cells joint venture (GM + LG Energy Solution) at plants in Warren, Ohio; Spring Hill, Tennessee; and Lansing, Michigan.
  • Agreement incentivises localisation of CAM production in North America for supply security.
