Federal crash data shows five Tesla Robotaxi crashes while a remote operator was driving

TeslaFull Self-Driving (Supervised)

NHTSA crash reports list five Tesla Robotaxi crashes in which a remote operator was driving, all ending in contact with another object, between July 2025 and August 2026. Two of them happened in August 2026, in Dallas and Austin. Tesla has 36 unique Robotaxi incident reports on file, but the data does not show how many remote interventions occurred, so no crash rate can be calculated.

  • The Dallas crash was a stopped Model Y moved forward at about 0.4 mph into an SUV; the August Austin crash was a Model Y driven into a dumpster at about 1 mph.
  • Earlier cases: a curb and metal fence at 8 mph in Austin (July 2025), a construction barricade at 9 mph in Austin (January 2026), and a tree stump in Houston (May 2026).
  • All five were low-speed and caused property damage only; no passengers were aboard in the Dallas and Austin cases.
  • Two of the five reports became public only after Tesla unredacted its crash narratives in May.
  • Tesla codes the two new reports as remote commercial or test operations; the article includes no statement from Tesla.
